Heating Assistance Is Available for Maine Households

We understand that high heating costs can place a real burden on families, seniors, and individuals throughout Maine. If you're concerned about paying for home heating this season, financial assistance may be available through Maine's Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), administered by MaineHousing and local Community Action Agencies.

Funding Is Available!

Maine has received additional heating assistance funding to help eligible households manage winter heating expenses. These funds are intended to assist both homeowners and renters with heating costs, emergency fuel needs, and certain energy-related services.

Quick Eligibility Check

You may qualify if you:

  • Live in Maine
  • Rent or own your home
  • Meet household income guidelines
  • Need help paying for heating fuel or energy costs

Eligibility is based primarily on household income and household size. Even if you're unsure whether you qualify, it's worth applying, as additional program criteria may apply.

How to Apply

  1. Gather basic household and income information.
  2. Have a recent heating fuel or utility bill available.
  3. Contact your local Community Action Agency or apply through MaineHousing's HEAP program.
  4. Complete the application and provide any requested documentation.

Additional Assistance May Be Available

Households approved for HEAP may also qualify for:

  • Emergency heating assistance
  • Electric bill assistance
